Although it was the closest train station to my hotel, I didn’t like it here one bit. I was so happy to find the station’s stamp that I placed my bag of concert merchandise, lightstick and all (I was freshly back from concerts at Tachikawa) on the stamp table and forgot it there. I returned to the hotel finding out that I forgot the bag here (about less than an hour later) and immediately came back to retrieve it, but it was no longer there. So I asked the station staff and manager for help but believe me, they weren’t helpful nor cooperative at all. I spoke Japanese, yes, but this time I came back as a tourist with a tourism visa, yet they demanded my foreigner card number, which I no longer had at the time and having provided my passport and all (I always carried my passport with me). They made me fill out the lost-and-found paperwork leaving not a single detail in complete despair and told me that they’d let me know via the hotel’s phone number when it’s found, only to take the bag out and ask me to check it after I submitted the said paperwork. Utterly unbelievable. They could just told me that they had it but I needed to describe it correctly or else they wouldn’t hand me the bag. No need to put me in such despair at all… On the other hand, the station was much dirtier compared to others (there’s always puke when it’s late at night since salarymen drink a lot), and the neighborhood seemed much more shabby. I wouldn’t want to stay at Shin-Okubo another time.
