What guests say

A hotel with a charming historical atmosphere. We enjoyed our stay overall, although there are a few areas that could be improved. The interior is beautiful, full of character, and clearly well maintained. It was definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The bathroom and bathtub are stylish, and the staff are polite, welcoming, and very helpful. I also appreciated the complimentary apples at reception. It's a small gesture, but it adds a nice touch. The hotel has a couple of honesty minibars where you simply write down what you've taken, which creates a cozy, home-like feeling. Housekeeping cleaned our room every day. There are, however, some drawbacks. Since the hotel is located in an old building, some of the original features are less practical, especially in the bathroom. The sink taps are positioned so close to the basin that it's difficult to wash your hands properly. The shower doesn't provide a consistent stream because water leaks from several points, and adjusting the temperature is tricky. The toilet flush is also quite weak, and you have to wait around five minutes for the cistern to refill before it can be used again. For a four-star hotel, I expected these facilities to function more smoothly. The sound insulation could also be better. You can hear noise from the bars across the street (not excessively loud, but noticeable). Early in the morning, when public transport starts running, slight vibrations can be felt. We could also hear staff announcing breakfast deliveries to other rooms. None of these issues were severe, but I'm sensitive to noise, so they did affect my sleep. The location is convenient, with a metro station nearby and an easy connection to Gatwick Airport. It's also well situated between the historic tourist areas and the more modern parts of London. However, there isn't much to do in the immediate neighborhood, so I would recommend using the metro to explore the city.
