Open in Google MapsWe had the occasion to spend a solid three to four hours at the NX Hostel. We left at midnight to a hotel accross town with air conditioning and it was a great decision. The positives: 1) The three men that appeared to live there were very friendly and they tried to accommodate us being early. The room (5bed en-suite) did look exactly like the pictures and were clean enough. 2) It as CHEAP! And, if I were a guy traveling with other guys not terrible. 3) It was fairly close to the train. The Please Considers: 1) The place does feel like what I imagine homeless shelters feel like. They do the best with what they have. The main areas are what gave me the heebees. Dark, dirty (teetering on filthy). 2) No air conditioning making the room oppressively hot. One young man in our party left an image of his person in sweat on the sheets, literally. 3) With the window open all kinds of smoke finds its way into the room from the sidewalk and street below. 4) Several men gather outside by the door smoking and drinking. If I had been a single woman traveling it would have been off putting. 5) The room door has very basic home bedroom safety features. COMPLETELY inadequate. This was proven when one of the attendants just walked into our room to bring us a fan. My final assesment is that it's crazy affordable and if you are guys traveling together in cooler months it's probably worth it if you're broke. If you are female or have ANY extra cash, find something better.
