109 Hammersmith Grove
Open in Google MapsWherever you stay there's a trade off. Lamington have apartments located across numerous buildings in the Hammersmith Grove area. Most of these, if not all, are old houses. So sound insulation is not of hotel standard. And there is no air con - which means some of the apartments become too hot to stay in comfortably when temperatures rise, despite the addition of fans. We stayed in three separate apartments during our five night stay last week when it was around 28c. The first was unusable as it was way too hot even with fans. The reception staff are well aware of these issues and did everything they could to reallocate us. The second two apartments were cooler. However their ability to do this is obviously limited by availability. It is also worth highlighting that the visuals used to market garden apartments on platforms such as booking are not representative, by definition, as there are lots of different garden apartments, all with varying outdoor spaces. Of the three I stayed in none had the outdoor space I thought I was booking. Some might find this misleading. On the upside, the staff were excellent and did what they could to help. They also shuttled our luggage from apartment to apartment for us. The location is excellent. Hammersmith Grove has a leafy London village vibe, transport links are great and there are loads of bars and restaurants on hand. The apartments themselves are also clean, refurbished, well maintained, well furnished and well equipped. Their main advantage is they offer more floor space than a comparably priced hotel room. Kitchens mean guests can self cater. And if you book a garden apt you also get some sort of private outdoor space - none of which would be available in a hotel. So like I said, it's a trade off. More space indoors and out and your own front door in a nice area with character versus no air con or sound proofing. I used to live in a garden flat in Hammersmith so to me it felt like coming home. And if I could guarantee the flat I was staying in, rather than being allocated whatever is available, I would stay again. Other guests though might find the lack of air con and sound proofing a turn off.
