Open in Google MapsI paid £211 for one night at Tufnell House and unfortunately had a very poor experience. The room was unbearably hot, the corridors were just as hot, and the window could barely be opened, making it impossible to ventilate the room. Combined with loud student noise during the night, it was almost impossible to sleep. I asked security for help at 2:00 a.m. and later called the emergency number, but no effective solution was provided. After my stay, I contacted Tufnell House directly, but I was told that they do not manage the accommodation and that all bookings and complaints are handled by The Stay Portal. Although The Stay Portal acknowledged my complaint, they refunded only £27, despite initially offering a 20% refund, which should have been £42.20 based on the £211 I paid. They proceed on on inventing a cleaning fee that wasn't mentioned anywhere to exclude it from the total cost. Booking.com only offered a €37 travel credit towards a future booking, while initially promising by phone a total refund. I have been a loyal Booking.com customer for eight years and have booked many hotels without ever needing to make a complaint. It was therefore extremely disappointing that, when I finally experienced a serious problem, the support and compensation offered were so limited. The stuff of Tufnell House were polite and I understand they don't make the rate neither are responsible for accomodation, but I can't review booking.com nor thestay portal directly. At this point, after a month of negotiating the obvious and playing with words, I do not care.
