Chapter Islington in London

The location is perfectly strategic for getting around, and the price was an unexpected hidden gem. In London this is great value, specially having all the public transport at the reach of 2 blocks, and a lot of places to eat around. Chapter Islington has, first of all, a major communication problem. They only notified me on the exact day I was flying to London that the property was for students only. Since my stay was from June 29th to July 7th, falling into July, I met the requirement. Fortunately, we managed to resolve it because my wife is doing a master’s degree and we were able to get her certificate very quickly. Secondly, room service scheduling was never clearly communicated. On our first morning, they knocked on our door very early. We asked them to come back later, but when we returned that afternoon, the room hadn't been cleaned. When we asked at reception, we were told that room service is only done on the 5th day of the stay. We waited until that day, and of course, it didn't happen. We complained, they apologized, but we stayed for 8 days and never received a single service. Furthermore, on the third night, we requested a mattress replacement because it was extremely uncomfortable and worn out. Reception said yes, but it was never replaced. Another issue is ventilation: the only option is opening the window, which faced the main courtyard. Despite warning signs, there were always people talking right next to our room until late, even midnight. There was plenty of security staff around, but they clearly didn't feel like working. Finally, we asked for a slightly late check-out, which was granted without issue. Yet again, the housekeeping staff was not informed and knocked on our door very early that morning. In short, there are too many operational issues. If you are on a tight budget compared to other London options, you can consider this place, but keep your guard up.
