The Blades Hotel offers small, cozy rooms (and tighter en suite water closet to match) in quintessential European fashion — there’s little room for bags, so pack lightly. The almost residential neighborhood (ie, away from tourist traps) offers coffee shops and local grocers literally down the street. Transit to nearby Westminster Square (or anywhere) is convenient, courtesy of the tube station a mere 5 minute walk away. That said, regulations were imposed in 2004 to preserve the historical condition of the hotel. As a result, the hotel has no lift and no air conditioning — although electric fans are provided. So, pros: - European charm - Calm, very convenient location with access to public transit and other services (ie, more time to spend seeing the sights) - Friendly staff - Affordable pricing Cons: - No air conditioning and no lift (ie, be prepared to carry bags upstairs) - Linens changed every 5 days, towels every 3 days - No late checkout - No bags held after checkout (for security reasons) Other nearby hotels do have amenities like AC, ice machines, lifts, late checkout, etc. The Blades offers that older, European charm and a no-frills stay at a lower rate. Decide where your priorities are, and book accordingly.
