Open in Google MapsI recently stayed at Hyatt Regency Dubai for one night to celebrate my wife & my 22nd wedding anniversary. I booked the Half Board package directly through Hyatt's official website & app because I wanted to revisit a hotel that held wonderful memories for us. I deliberately booked directly with Hyatt because I trust the brand & expected the experience that comes with staying at one of its flagship hotels. To be fair, this hotel has many strengths, but unfortunately one significant weakness overshadowed what should have been a memorable celebration. The receptionist who checked us in was exceptional. She warmly congratulated us on our anniversary, was genuinely welcoming, & kindly upgraded us to a higher-floor room. She deserves recognition for her professionalism. The room was spotless, comfortable & very well maintained. Despite the hotel's age, the furniture, bathroom & housekeeping standards were excellent. We enjoyed a peaceful night's sleep with a comfortable bed & excellent air conditioning. The spa, jacuzzi & wellness facilities were also clean, relaxing & maintained to a high standard. Breakfast the following morning was served in a different restaurant from the previous evening. The venue was brighter, more spacious & more inviting. It offered a good variety of local, Middle Eastern & Western dishes. While not the most luxurious breakfast in Dubai, it was certainly appropriate for a five-star hotel. Ironically, breakfast exceeded my expectations, while dinner fell far below them. Unfortunately, our arrival experience was disappointing. Instead of valet parking, I was asked to park my own vehicle & walk back through the extreme Dubai summer heat. My wife was carrying our luggage while the main entrance door wasn't functioning properly, & no one offered assistance until she asked. Although there were five reception counters, only two were staffed, resulting in a wait of around 10–15 minutes. The exterior also feels dated, although the interior is much better preserved. The swimming pool, while clean, is surprisingly small for a hotel of this category. However, the biggest disappointment was the Half Board dinner experience. After entering the restaurant, I was initially directed towards what appeared to be the dinner buffet. It was, without question, one of the poorest dinner buffets I have encountered in a hotel of this category. I have experienced considerably better dinner buffets at many four-star—and even some three-star—hotels. The selection was extremely limited, with only three main courses, almost no salads, very few desserts & almost no fresh fruit. Only after I had already started serving myself was I informed that my package actually included an à la carte menu instead. This misunderstanding could easily have been avoided through clearer communication. Unfortunately, the à la carte menu itself was equally disappointing. We were entitled to only one starter & one main course, with a very limited selection overall. It simply was not the dining experience I expected from Hyatt Regency, especially on such an important occasion. At that point, I completely lost both my appetite & the excitement of celebrating our anniversary. My wife & I left the restaurant without having dinner & celebrated elsewhere, in a place that offered the warmth & hospitality we had hoped to find. Being in the hospitality industry for many years & having stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world, I do not make comments like these lightly. The staff generally did a good job, & many aspects of this hotel remain genuinely enjoyable. My concern is with management decisions regarding the arrival experience & the Food & Beverage offering, which unfortunately do not reflect the standards expected from a Hyatt Regency. There is still a good hotel here. The rooms, housekeeping, spa & breakfast clearly demonstrate that. I sincerely hope management reviews the Half Board dining experience & the overall guest arrival experience, because with meaningful improvements this hotel could once again become one of Dubai's finest.
